Attacks leave Community Frightened - Boylan

16 July, 2008 - by Cathal Boylan

Sinn Féin Newry and Armagh MLA Cathal Boylan, has said the whole community has been shocked at the revelations that a woman has been seriously sexually assaulted in the centre of the town.

He said,

'A young woman in her twenties was attacked by two men in the Dobbin Street area at approximately 30 minutes after midnight on Tuesday morning. This attack has sent shock waves throughout the community.

'My thoughts and thoughts of my party in Armagh are with this woman and her family at this, no doubt very traumatic time. In the meantime I would urge any women who are out socialising in the City to, where possible, not be left isolated and alone and to take a taxi home, especially late at night or in the early hours of the morning.'

'This attack comes on the back of another violent incident where a woman was assaulted at the underpass on Killylea road on Monday night. The community in Armagh should not be subjected to this violence and threat of violence and I would call on anyone with information regarding the attack to bring it to the PSNI."
