Sinn Féin welcome Fertility announcement but NICE clinical excellence should be a reality not an aspiration for Health Minister
Sinn Féin Mid Ulster MLA and Deputy Chair of the Assembly Health Committee, Michele O'Neill has welcomed the announcements today halving the waiting time for Fertility treatment however has stated that meeting NICE clinical excellence guidelines should be a reality not an aspiration.
Speaking today Ms O'Neill:
"Today's announcement that a regional waiting list which will address the inequalities that have existed previously in IVF treatment in the north is to be welcomed. Previously there were long waiting lists but this move will half the waiting time and allow greater access for women seeking this treatment.
"On top of this however Michael McGimpsey stated that he aspired to meeting the NICE clinical excellence guidelines. Under these guidelines women would receive three treatment cycles which has been proven to give women undergoing fertility treatment a greater chance.
"Sinn Fein would be quite clear about this. As a Health service that should be offering first class treatment this should not be an aspiration , this should be reality."
