Health Trust pest statistics revealed

2 January, 2009 - by Michelle O'Neill

Sinn Féin Mid Ulster MLA and Deputy Chair of the Assembly Health Committee Michele O'Neil has expressed shock at the statistics revealed in the media today highlighting that, last year, Pest control experts were called more than 800 times by health trusts across the Six Counties.

Ms O'Neil said,

"Obviously these are very worrying and shocking statistics and will no doubt come as a shock to many patients and indeed workers within our health sector.

"We in Government must do our bit to ensure that we work for the benefit of those workers and patients who are being cared for in our hospitals.

"Health Trusts and Hospital Managements must also play their part in ensuring that cleanliness is maintained to the highest possible standard. As we head into a new year, let's hope that these statistics will not be repeated and will come as a wake up call to all of us in Government that we must actively work to ensure that patients have the highest standard of healthcare that they deserve.
