Ní Chuilín welcomes Billy Leonard onto the Sinn Féin Assembly Team

7 January, 2010 - by Carál Ní Chuilín

Sinn Féin Chief Whip Carál Ní Chuiín MLA has this afternoon officially welcomed Billy Leonard as the new Sinn Féin MLA for East Derry.

Billy replaces Francie Brolly who retired from the Assembly at the beginning of September.

Ms Ní Chuilín began by acknowledging Francie’s work;

“Firstly I want to once again thank Francie for his enormous contribution to the Republican struggle; he was a dedicated MLA who worked tirelessly on behalf of the people in East Derry and was very highly thought of amongst his comrades in the Assembly Team and amongst those from other political parties. Once again I wish Francie and his family well in the time ahead.”

Ms Ní Chuilín also wished incoming MLA Billy Leonard well for his forthcoming tenure as an MLA;

“I was with Billy when signed the Members’ Register in the Speakers Office this afternoon, it is a great pleasure to welcome Billy onto our team. His work on behalf of the people at a local level within the council is well known.  I have no doubt that he will make a massive contribution to the Sinn Féin team here in the Assembly. I wish him every success in the time ahead and look forward to working with him on the important issues facing our people as we enter into a new Assembly term.

Fáilte romhat Billy agus go n-eirí an t-ádh leat.” CRÍOCH
