Government must set date for Donegal South West by-election

15 January, 2010 - by Pearse Doherty TD

Sinn Féin Senator Pearse Doherty has called on the Government to set a date for the Donegal South West by-election in the wake of the announcement of a summer election for a Mayor of Dublin.

Senator Doherty said it is highly insulting to the people of Donegal that an election date can be set for a Mayoral election in Dublin while the Government refuses to set a date to fill the Donegal South West seat.

He said:

“It would seem that the people of Donegal South West have once again slipped the mind of this Government. It is highly insulting to the electorate in my constituency that the Government would name a date for a Dublin Mayoral election while refusing to name a date for the Donegal South West by-election.

“The Government must now name a date for the by-election to take place.” ENDS
