Basil McLaughlin was committed to his community – Adams

27 January, 2010 - by Pat Sheehan

Sinn Féin President and west Belfast MP Gerry Adams has expressed his deepest sympathies to the family of Basil McLaughlin, one of the founders of the Andersontown News.

Speaking this evening Mr Adams said;

Basil was one of the founders of the Andersontown News and became the papers first editor; he was deeply committed to his community.

He was also a photographer with the Andersontown news and will no doubt be remembered for the countless photographs he took on behalf of the paper, often in very difficult and dangerous circumstances.

Basil stood for truth and justice and worked tirelessly on behalf of his community, he will be sorely missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with Basil’s family at this time.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.” CRÍOCH
