Durkan says farewell to Irish politics

February 6, 2010

Sinn Féin Upper Bann MLA and Assembly Group Leader John O Dowd, commenting on the retirement of Mark Durkan as leader of the SDLP said:

“I want to wish Mark and his family well on what is effectively his retirement from Irish politics.

Like Gerry Fitt before him, Mark has made a career choice.
He has chosen to leave the difficult work of leading a political party in the north and will now spend his time in the corridors of Westminster.

“More powers are coming to the North, this is where change is being made and delivered to all citizens . Nationalists and Republicans have a job of work to do, the dynamic for that work , is now firmly centred in Ireland.” CRÍOCH
