Incoming Government must prioritise jobs – Tóibín

Speaking today following the release of the Live Register figures for February, Sinn Féin TD for Meath West, Peadar Tóibín, said that the new Government must put job creation at the top of their agenda.

Deputy Tóibín said:

“With 439,200 people on the Live Register, now is the time for the incoming Government to deliver on their promises to get Ireland working. The time for rhetoric and sound-bites is over.

“With Fine Gael and Labour about to marry into coalition, they need to put job creation at the top of their agenda.

“However, given that both parties aim to continue FF's policy of retrenchment and get rid of 30,000 and 18,000 public sector workers respectively, we are more likely to see jobless figures swell further in the coming months.

“We in Sinn Féin believe that the economy needs a stimulus package as soon as possible. We need to robustly support small indigenous businesses and the IDA and Enterprise Ireland need the resources and the focus to step up their output".
