Kelly MLA was first elected in North Belfast
in 1996.
Central in opposing the Holy Cross school blockade by loyalists Gerry was spokesperson on policing and justice before becoming an Executive Minister.
His responsibilities include Older people and children and young people. Former hunger striker and escapee Gerry is a key member of the Sinn Fein negotiating team.
He regularly represents Sinn Fein internationally in conflict transformation work ranging from The Philippines, to Latin America.
