Sinn Féin to question PSNI Chief Constable over retiring/rehiring at Justice Committee meeting

16 February, 2012 - by Raymond McCartney

Sinn Féin MLA Raymond McCartney said that the party will be seeking more answers to the retiring and rehiring of former RUC and PSNI members when PSNI Chief Constable Matt Baggott appears before the Justice Committee at Stormont for the first time today.

Raymond McCartney, who is Vice Chair of the Justice Committee said:

“This is the first time that the Chief Constable will be appearing before the Justice Committee and Sinn Féin will be raising, among many other issues, that of retiring and rehiring.

“The PSNI Chief Constable will be made aware in no uncertain terms the damage that such a practise has done to public confidence in the new start to policing.

“We will also be seeking assurances that the policy will be discontinued so that all those employed by the police will be accountable and will have signed up to the new start in policing.”CRÍOCH/END
