Adams expresses sympathy at death of Martin O'Brien

28 August, 2012 - by Gerry Adams TD

Sinn Féin president, Gerry Adams TD, has expressed his sympathy with Cork North Central TD, Jonathan O'Brien on the death of his father, Martin, today. (Tuesday 28 August 2012)

Deputy Adams said:
"I was very saddened this morning to hear of the death of Martin O'Brien father of Sinn Féin TD, Jonathan.
Jonathan has lost his staunchest supporter and Martin's passing will be deeply felt by all his family.
"I met him by Jonathan's side at various Sinn Féin events in Cork and while canvassing too. I know that he and Jonathan were very close and that Martin's advice to his son in his life of political activism was invaluable.
"I wasn't in Cork the night that Jonathan's election was announced, but many who were there told me that the proudest man in the room was Martin.
"I send my deepest sympathy to Jonathan, his mother and Martin's wife, Margaret, Tracy and Martin jnr, his brother Liam, his sister Mary and the whole family.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis."
