Full security protections needed for concert goers – McDonald

7 September, 2012 - by Mary Lou McDonald TD

Following a local policing forum meeting to discuss the violent events at the July Swedish House Mafia concert in the Phoenix Park Sinn Féin Dublin Central TD Mary Lou McDonald welcomed the acceptance by all stakeholders including the gardaí and MCD Productions that lessons must be learnt and new security protocols must now be put in place.

Deputy McDonald said

“The agreement of the Gardaí and MCD Productions at the policing forum meeting today, for the need to bring forward new security protocols, were welcomed by all stakeholders.

“Protocols must include screening concert goers for weapons, particularly knives. There are of course the wider issues regarding knife crime that must be addressed by the justice system.

“However if lessons are to be learnt from the violent events in the Phoenix Park last July then the Gardaí and event organisers such as MCD Productions must put in place full security protections for concert goers to ensure an incident like this does not happen again.”
