Taoiseach’s comments on property tax of little comfort to struggling families – Stanley

9 September, 2012 - by Brian Stanley TD

Responding to reports in the media today that the proposed property tax could be anything from €250 to €400, the Sinn Féin spokesperson on local government Brian Stanley said:

“Sinn Féin is opposed to this tax in principle as it does not take into account ability to pay. The Taoiseach’s assurance that the tax could be anything from €250 to €400 will come as little comfort to families who are already seriously struggling under the weight of government cuts and charges.

“Sinn Féin’s wealth tax is a more equitable proposal which links ability to pay with a percentage tax on all property, physical, material and financial, over €1 million.”
