Paul Maskey MP To Attend Trade Union Conference Today

10 September, 2012 - by Westminster

Sinn Féin West Belfast MP Paul Maskey will be traveling to the TUC congress in Brighton today to meet trade union leaders and speak to delegates from Ireland.

Mr Maskey said,

“I will be traveling to meet with British trade union leaders, and to attend fringe events at the conference including those showing solidarity with the struggle in Palestine, Venezuela & Cuba, as well speaking at a gathering of Congress delegates from Ireland.

“It is important that  we have investment to create jobs and that we support the maintenance of  public services and  defend workers rights.

“The message I will be taken is that Sinn Féin are active on this North and South of the border

“In the Assembly Sinn Féin are working to combat the worst effects of Tory cuts and welfare reform andin the south as the leading opposition voice against the governments policy of austerity and of bailing out the banks.

“I intend to raise the plight of workers at Visteon, Cavan Brick, Greencore and others who have found themselves dumped without redress by these companies.

“Sinn Féin has a vision of a new united Ireland where wealth will be generated and distributed for the good of all in society, not for the few and I will be calling on the Trade Unions to become persuaders of this new Ireland. “
