MEP demands justice for Michaela McAreavey in the European Parliament
September 11, 2012
Sinn Féin MEP, Martina Anderson has today made a speech in the European Parliament, highlighting the case to her fellow MEPs and strongly urging the President of the parliament, Martin Schulz, to write to the Mauritian authorities in order to ensure that the pursuit for justice for Michaela McAreavey, her husband John and both their families continues.
"The murder of Michaela and the subsequent trial in Mauritius, which ended in July with two hotel workers being aquitted of the crime, was an incredibly harrowing experience for both the Harte and McAreavey families both during the investigation and the court proceedings. It is therefore imperative that the eyes of the international community remain on the Mauritian authorities and pressure continues to be exerted upon them for her husband, their families and their loved ones.
"I have therefore asked the President of the European Parliament to contact the Mauritian government authorities to urge them to do all in their power to ensure that justice is finally delivered."
