Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson was today in Brussels to speak at a Gingerbread event to celebrate the culmination of years of hard work on the Restart training programme which was initiated in the north of Ireland.
Ms Anderson stated,
"It is fantastic that the Restart Project has made so many important connections throughout Europe, including; Norway, Cyprus, Italy and Poland to spread their experience in helping to empower one-parent families to overcome the structural and personal barriers which prevent them from returning to the labour market.'
"It is essential that we remain aware of the immense difficulties facing lone-parent families especially at this time of economic crisis. It is imperative that we work to lessen their problems via a range of concrete measures such as reliable, affordable and quality childcare which is so important to enabling lone parents get back to work and out of poverty."
