Sinn Féin TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh will lead a 'Communities against Cuts' protest outside Fine Gael’s Dublin South Central office on Tyrconnell Road, Inchicore, tomorrow, Saturday 22 September 2012, at noon. He will be joined by members of SIPTU.
Speaking this evening ahead of the protest Ó Snodaigh said;
“We are urging local Fine Gael Deputy Catherine Byrne not to vote for any more cuts. Only last year Fine Gael and Labour promised a new style of government but all we got was Fianna Fáil policies with a Fine Gael stamp.
“The government needs to wake up to the fact that it can not cut its way out of recession. The government must invest in jobs so we can grow the economy.
“A reformed tax system, whereby those who earn more pay more will generate much needed income for the state to invest in our communities.
“We are delighted to have speakers from SIPTU and Communities against Cuts. We will also be taking the opportunity to hand in a letter to Deputy Byrne urging her not to vote for any more cuts.
“Deputy Byrne must take responsibility for her actions, she can no longer hide in the corridors of Leinster House.”
In conclusion Deputy Ó Snodaigh called on Deputy Byrne, “to come out and reassure her constituents that she will not support a budget that cuts funding to education, welfare or health care.”
