Ó Snodaigh leads campaign against cuts protest at Fine Gael constituency office
September 22, 2012
Sinn Fein's Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD today led a protest supported by SIPTU and the ‘Communities against Cuts’ campaign to Fine Gael’s Dublin South Central office where a letter was delivered to Deputy Catherine Byrne urging her not to vote for any more cuts.
Speakers at the protest from SIPTU and Communities against Cuts urged communities and trade unions to work together to oppose every cut and defend every job.
Speaking at the protest Deputy Ó Snodaigh said;
“We are here today holding this government to account. We urge local Fine Gael Deputy Catherine Byrne not to vote for any more cuts. Only last year Fine Gael and Labour promised a new style of government but all we are getting are Fianna Fáil cuts with a Fine Gael stamp of approval.
“This government is overseeing the worst economic disaster since the foundation of the state. Government TDs must be held to account by the public. Today we are giving a voice to the anger that the public feel.
“Government policies fail the people of Ireland on a daily basis. But it does not have to be this way. The government must invest in jobs so we can grow the economy. A reformed tax system, whereby those who earn more pay more will generate much needed income for the state to invest in our communities.
"Sinn Fein is commited to building alliances with SIPTU, other trade unions and communities to resist this government inside and outside of Leinster House.”
