McCann to address "Entwined Histories" event in Belfast

27 September, 2012 - by Jennifer McCann

Sinn Féin MLA and Junior Minister Jennifer McCann will speak at the “Entwined Histories” project tonight at Belfast City Hall, commenting on the event she said,

“The period, 2012-2023, marks the centenaries of a number of significant historic events which have helped to shape our identities.  There is no doubt that this decade may bring a number of challenges for all of us as we face up to the history of Ireland and consider how it impacts on our present.

"Having said that, the decade also presents us with an historic opportunity to revisit the past, to understand where we have come from, and to come to an understanding about where we wish to go to in the future.

"The Entwined Histories project is an example of how the decade can be used in a very positive way to generate debate. The project has great value in offering our young people the opportunity to learn about the past and reflect on the lessons that it can offer us as we work to build a better future."
