Merkel gives Kenny a Judas kiss: Doherty

19 October, 2012 - by Pearse Doherty TD

Speaking in response to the latest statements by German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, today, Pearse Doherty TD has said that the government “not only failed to get a deal on our debt, but has blown a lot of hot air about positivity when there is no progress at all”.
The Donegal South West TD said that while the government European Affairs spokesperson along with the and Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Tanaiste Eamon Gilmore were telling the Irish people about progress and positivity, the German Chancellor was very clear:
“Angela Merkel is quoted as saying ‘If recapitalisation is possible, it will only be possible for the future,’ in the clearest indication yet that this government negotiating team has failed miserably to make any progress at all in the separation of banking from sovereign debt.
“We see photos today of Enda Kenny and Angela Merkel exchanging kisses, but it seems it was a Judas kiss she gave him,” Deputy Doherty said.
“Before he left for the European Council meeting the Taoiseach said he would talk tough for an agreement on Irish banking debt. He failed to secure a deal and he didn’t even get it onto the agenda.
“Meanwhile the negotiations on the promissory note payments seem to be going nowhere and the Irish taxpayer is still saddled with €64bn of private banking debt, with the negotiation strategy in tatters.”

Tugann Merkel Póg Judas do Kenny : Doherty

Ag labhairt mar fhreagra ar na ráitis is déanaí uaidh an Seansailéir Gearmáine, Angela Merkel inniu, Deir Pearse Ó Dochartaigh TD “ní amháin go bhfuil teip ar an Rialtas maidir le réiteach ar ár fiacha ach go bhfuil siad ag maíomh faoi cúrsaí bheith dearfach gan iad tar éis aon dul chun cinn a dhéanamh.”

Deir an TD as Deisceart Dhún na nGall Thiar, cé go bhfuil urlabhraí Gnóthaí rialtas na hEoraip chomh maith leis an Taoiseach Enda Kenny agus an Tánaiste Éamon Gilmore ag insint do mhuintir na hÉireann faoi dul chun cinn dearfach, bhí an Seansailéir na Gearmáine an-soiléir:

“Tá sé luaite go ndúirt sí ‘Má tá athchaipitlithe I ndán, beidh sé ar ár gcumas don todhchaí.’ Sa léiriú is soiléire fos go bhfuil an fhoireann rialtas idirbheartaíochta tar éis teipeadh ar aon dul chun cinn ar chora ar bith I scaradh na baincéireachta ó fiach ceannasach.

“Feicimid grianghraif inniu le Enda Kenny agus Angela Merkel ag malartú póg, ach tá an chumadh ar gur póg Judas a thug sí dhó’ a deir an Teachta Ó Dochartaigh.

“Sular fhág sé don leis an cruinniú Comhairle Eorpaí, dúirt an Taoiseach go mbeadh sé ag cuir in iúl go dian chun Comhaontú ar fhiachas bainceireachta na hÉireann a bhaint amach. Theip air réiteach a fhail agus níor éirigh leis fiú ar chuir ar an gclár oibre.

“Idir an dá linn, is cosúil nach bhfuil na cainteanna ar na híocaíochtaí nóta gealltanais ag déanamh aon dul chun cinn agus tá cáiníocóirí na hÉireann fos sáite le €64bn do fiach baincéireachta príobháideacha agus an straitéis chaibidlíochta sractha as a cheile.”
