Sinn Féin MLA Bronwyn McGahan has welcomed the decision to extend the inquiry into institutional abuse back to 1922.
Ms McGahan said,
“I welcome this decision today to extend the inquiry remit back to 1922 as this will cover all living victims of institutional abuse.
“Being a victim of abuse is a relevant and has as much as impact on your daily life to an elderly person as it has to younger victims.
“This extension of the remit will allow the inquiry to hear evidence from every living victim and bring some comfort to those people who were originally excluded due to the cut of date of 1945.
“Hopefully we can move forward now to the next stage and see the inquiry team begin their work in the New Year which will be a big relieve for all thse victims of institutional abuse.”
