Chair of the Assembly Health Committee Sue Ramsey and East Belfast Councillor Niall Ó Donnghaile met yesterday with the Public Health Agency, local community groups and other elected reps to discuss concerns regarding suicides in East Belfast.
Speaking afterwards Sue Ramsey said:
“Given the recent tragic losses in the east of the city we felt it important to hear the concerns of people on the ground and what the statutory organisations are doing to prevent suicide.
“These organisations are working extensively to promote good mental health, emotional wellbeing and suicide awareness.
“We will be hosting a series of follow up meetings to review how the work progresses and what additional measures we can collectively put in place for the people of the east of the city and indeed greater Belfast.”
Cllr Niall Ó Donghaile added:
“From the meeting we held it is clear that the people of East Belfast are determined to tackle the difficult issues facing them.
“It was a useful meeting where we made clear our expectations from statutory organisations and what we believe they should be delivering on the ground in the wake of such losses.”
