Sinn Féin MP encourages farmers to take all precautions possible

31 October, 2012 - by Westminster

Fermanagh & South Tyrone Sinn Féin MP Michelle Gildernew has said that the death of Dungannon farmer Jackie McCooey at the weekend highlights the dangers of the farming industry.

Michelle Gildernew was speaking after attending the funeral of Mr McCooey who is a neighbour:

Jackie McCooey is a neighbour of mine and my heartfelt sympathy is with his family at this time. Not only is this is a terrible tragedy for the farming community but another stark reminder of the dangers associated with the industry.

“As a former Agriculture Minister I know how much was done and is continuing to be done by the present Minister Michelle O’Neill to make farming safer.

“I would appeal to all farmers to take every precaution on their farms and also contact a safety officer to give them advice on any improvements they can make.”
