Hayes’ comments show that the wealthy are to be protected at the expense of those less well off – Cullinane
January 4, 2013
Responding to comments from Brian Hayes today that the government has exhausted most of its taxation measures Sinn Féin Senator David Cullinane said the government is protecting high earners at the expense of low and middle income earners.
Senator Cullinane said;
“What the minister really means is that cuts will be the order of the day for this government and we already know that when this government introduces cuts they affect low and middle income earners disproportionately.
“In one comment Minister Hayes has ruled out increased taxation measures on those who can afford to pay more while letting the ordinary struggling taxpayer know to expect more cuts.
“Sinn Féin has put forward options for consideration but this government is not interested. It would rather cut child benefit and carer’s allowances than introduce a wealth tax or a new income tax of 48% on earnings above €100,000.”
