Clarity needed on pipe bomb find – McLaughlin

1 February, 2013 - by Mitchel McLaughlin

Sinn Féin MLA For South Antrim has called for clarity from the PSNI surrounding the pipe bomb find in the grounds of a Catholic Church in Ballyclare.

Speaking today Mr McLaughlin said:

“The discovery of pipe bombs in the grounds of the Catholic Church in Ballyclare is very concerning.

“Whoever is responsible for leaving these in the grounds of the church, for whatever intent, have been wholly reckless and have endangered local people lives. “This discovery is being reported as being made up of component parts but also as viable devices.

“I have already contacted the PSNI, through my office, and have asked for greater detail on this find. I have also asked colleagues on the Policing Board on this matter.

“Questions remain as to whether this was an attack on the church or somebody had abandoned these devices in the grounds. The wider community in Ballyclare should have clarity on this and I would urge the PSNI to provide this.”
