Sinn Féin Health spokesperson Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD has called for the immediate publication of HSE Regional Service Plans and the rationale for hospital budgets after the leaking to RTE of hospital budget figures showing wide disparities in increases and decreases in allocations for hospital across the State.
Deputy Ó Caoláin said;
“The figures revealed today show wide disparities in increases and decreases for hospital budgets across the State. But no rationale or explanation accompanies the figures. The €9 million decrease for St. James Hospital is alarming as are the decreases for the children's hospitals at Crumlin and Temple Street.
“We have repeatedly stressed the need to fully support and enhance the existing children's hospitals, pending the development of the new National Children's Hospital. Elsewhere, increases for other hospital budgets are welcome but, again, we have no indication if this is sufficient to meet need.
“What we do know is that overall, under the HSE’s National Service Plan, unsustainable cuts of over €721 million are being imposed across the public health services in 2013. The Minister should immediately publish the Regional Service Plans, including the rationale for these hospital budgets.”
