Boyle welcomes reassurance on shared grazing
March 6, 2013
West Tyrone MLA Michaela Boyle welcomed reassurance from the Minister of Agriculture Michelle O Neill that the issue of shared grazing is one that she is continuing to seek solutions to.
Speaking at the Ministers oral questions yesterday, the West Tyrone MLA said,
"The huge amount of work undertaken by the Department of Agriculture to produce a high speck new mapping system for Single Farm Payment has been progressing well however it has thrown up difficulties for some smaller farmers in particular who have traditionally shared the payments from within the same field. Under the new system this cannot continue in the way that it has in the past and many farmers have already moved to a new arrangement by either through negotiation or erection of a permanent barrier, however there remains a smaller number of farmers were this is proving more difficult."
Michaela Boyle continued, "Therefore I welcome the Ministers reassurance that she has asked her officials to continue to work with farmers to find solutions to this problem so that smaller farmers in particular do not lose out under the new mapping regime."
