Private sector panel to oversee jobs plan is a concern: Toibín
March 12, 2013
Peadar Tóibín TD, Sinn Féin spokesperson for jobs, enterprise and innovation, today expressed concern that the government has set up a panel of private sector executives to oversee the implementation for the Action Plan for Jobs and National Competitiveness Council.
Peadar Toibín said: “The panel appointed today is top heavy in representatives of the multinationals corporations and does not reflect the experience and expertise of workers and the SME sector. It should be remembered that 78% of jobs are in the SME sector.
“I am concerned that a lobsided unrepresentative private sector group have an undue influence on government policy. If the government is serious about implementing and assessing the effectiveness of the action plan for jobs then they should set annual targets for employment, stimulate demand with investment in needed infrastructure and resolve market distortions such as upward only rent.”
