Results highlight Sinn Fein education strategy working

Sinn Féin Education spokesperson Chris Hazzard has said that the latest figures showing an increase of the number of children achieving 5 or more GCSE pass grades reinforces Sinn Féin strategy of promoting academic excellence over selection.
Mr. Hazzard stated,
“The latest figure showing more and more children right across the educational spectrum are achieving better grades only reinforces the Sinn Féin argument that academic excellence can be achieved without selection.
“I would congratulate all the students, parents and teachers who put so much work into getting better grades in a wide range of subjects including English and Maths.
“While there has been another increase in the number of children achieving 5 or more GCSE passes there are still too many not reaching this threshold.
“It is now time to invest in our children by stopping the inequalities that selection has created without increasing academic excellence.
“I would call on teachers, parents and Educational Boards to work to make selection a thing of the past and work with the Minister in delivering a world class education system for all of our children.”
