Sinn Féin spokesperson on Arts and Heritage, Deputy Sandra McLellan has expressed her sadness at the passing of renowned poet and Nobel Prize Laureate, Séamus Heaney.
“Few people have contributed as much to Ireland's cultural life as did Seamus Heaney. He was truly loved by the Irish people and deservedly so.
“He had an incredible gift for language and expression, and he chronicled Irish life in a unique way, both in terms of the significant events of our time, but also in terms of the lives of ordinary people.
“However, his appeal crossed many borders, and that was reflected in him being awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. He will truly be missed.
“I wish to express my condolences to Marie, and Séamus’ family and friends in this difficult time.”
