Sinn Féin MLA Maeve McLaughlin has welcomed the announcement by the Health Minister that there will be an inquiry into the recent abuse and exploitation of children both in care homes and elsewhere.
The Sinn Féin spokesperson on Health and Chair of the Assembly’s Health Committee said:
“It is good news that the minister has agreed with Sinn Féin that there needs to be an inquiry into these revelations.
“Sinn Féin will be looking at the terms of reference, the independent nature and the accountability mechanisms within that inquiry.
“We have always said that the focus needs to be on protecting and safeguarding the most vulnerable within our society.
““However this inquiry must not only learn the lessons from the recent revelations but accountability must also be a factor for any failings that have occurred.”
