At the National Ploughing Championships tomorrow, Thursday, 26 September 2013, Sinn Féin president, Gerry Adams TD along with the party's agricultural spokesperson, Martin Ferris TD and Senator Trevor Ó Clochartaigh, will launch the Standing Up for Rural Ireland document.
The document will be launched at the Sinn Féin stand S297 at 11am.
The discussion document is the result of a year-long process of engagement with communities and grassroots organisations across rural Ireland.
Sinn Féin's representatives in the process, including the party leader, met with families, businesses and service providers throughout the length and breadth of Ireland hearing how government austerity policy is impacting on their lives and livelihoods and how the burden of cuts is threatening the future sustainabilty of the rural way of life.
In his introduction to the document, Sinn Féin president, Gerry Adams TD said:
“While it is a time of adversity, it is also a time of opportunity A lesser people confronted by centuries of colonisation, hardship and occupation, division and emigration, would have collapsed under the weight of the burden.
“The Irish people are made of sterner stuff. We have risen above all that and we will not allow this current crisis to break us.”
