Speaking following the announcement of the EU constituency boundaries Sinn Féin candidate for the new Midlands-Northwest constituency, Matt Carthy, has welcomed the announcement saying he was ready for the campaign and that he believed Sinn Féin could and would take a seat in the new constituency.
Matt Carthy said;
“I welcome the announcement of constituency boundaries for next year’s European elections. Sinn Féin will be campaigning in the Midlands-Northwest constituency to win a seat.
“I have already been traveling through much of this constituency and meeting individuals and organisations who have been suffering as a result of EU and Irish government policy. There is real anger about the impact that austerity, unemployment and emigration have caused local communities. People have been let down and failed by the EU, their existing MEPs and by Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael-led governments.
“Sinn Féin offers a clear alternative to the austerity agenda and I believe that we can and will win a seat in this constituency.
“I will make one promise to voters and that is that I will not be another yes man in the EU parliament.
“If elected I will stand up against austerity; against excessive red tape and bureaucracy; for investment and jobs and for fair agriculture policies that support the family farm.”
“It is time for change. It is time for a new, fresh voice to represent the new constituency of Midlands-Northwest.”
