Speaking today, after publication of live register figures, Senator David Cullinane, Sinn Féin spokesperson for jobs, enterprise and innovation said:
“Despite government spin, communities across Ireland continue to feel the bite of government policy that has maintained high unemployment and emigration.
“The decrease in the live register of 1,800 must be viewed in the context of the 1,700 people who emigrate on average every week.
“Over three times the amount of people emigrated than came of the live register. “The reality is that government policy is holding down the domestic economy, failing business and promoting emigration.
“There is a need for the government to use the coming budget to invest in growth and the development of quality full-time employment.”
