Sinn Féin Education Spokesperson Chris Hazzard has said that the announcement of £106 million of investment in school improvements is another indicator of Sinn Féin’s commitment to transform the education system.
Mr. Hazzard said,
“The announcement by Education Minister John O’Dowd that he is to invest another £106 million into capital projects on refurbishment and extensions is welcome news both for education and the construction industry.
“Since Sinn Fein has taken on the portfolio of education the school estate has been transformed in creating the proper conditions to enhance the teaching of our children.
“This money will be targeted at increasing the standard of our schools by allowing schools to replace temporary classrooms with permanent ones or improving already existing facilities such as sports halls, canteens or assembly halls.
“This injection of cash will also be welcome news for the local construction industry that will be engaged in the work to carry out these improvements.
“The School Enhancement Programme is an ongoing programme and while the fifty schools announced today will no doubt be delighted that they can upgrade their facilities other schools can take comfort that further announcements will be made in the future.”
