Sinn Féin MLA and Junior Minister Jennifer McCann praised the role played by community organisations in building Peace & Reconciliation.
Speaking at an event in Ballymena, the West Belfast MLA said:
“Once again we see how locally based community organisations are leading the way in peace building and reconciling people and communities.
“The FORWARD project is jointly co-ordinated by the Leafair Community Association from Derry and the Carson Project based in Ballymena.
“The two organisations have been working together for a number of years bringing people from diverse culturally backgrounds together to enhance the understanding of the conflict and its legacy.
“It has enabled participants to listen to each others experiences and come to an understanding that while there may not be a single narrative there is space to agree a way forward to promote community harmony.
“It is important that we recognise the work that people in local areas carry out on a daily basis in communities that were directly effected by the conflict, and build on the relationships and best practice that is already there.”
