Sinn Féin councillor Charlene O'Hara has called on anyone with information regarding a serious sexual assault on a young woman on the Stewartstown Road last night to immediately contact the PSNI.
The West Belfast councillor said:
"A young woman was raped last night in the Stewartstown Road area and we need those responsible taken off the streets as soon as possible.
"First and foremost the thoughts of the community are with the victim who has suffered this dreadful ordeal. I would call on anyone with any information whatsoever to contact the PSNI so that the culprits can be taken off the streets.
"I would also appeal to women to remain vigilant and to make sure they are accompanied when travelling at night until those responsible are arrested. This has shocked the local community who will not feel safe until the perpetrators are apprehended."
