Sinn Féin Education spokesperson Chris Hazzard has said that an in-depth evaluation of the North's education system by the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) is a clear endorsement of the minister's policies.
Mr. Hazzard stated,
“The report highlighted the good work done across the sector in terms of bringing about a consistent appraisal system for pupil, teachers and schools.
“I welcome the fact that the report commends the official policy that puts pupils at the centre of the evaluation and assessment framework. From such an internationally respected organisation such as the OECD, this report is a clear endorsement of the Minister's policies and the challenge now is for all those with an interest in education and our young people to ensure those policies are fully implemented.
“However this is the second major report in recent weeks from the OCED that highlights the failure of selection as a major obstacle in moving education forward. It also supports the immediate implementation of the Education Skills Authority in bringing about efficiencies and coordinating future education.
“It is important that we look at the report and act on the recommendations so that our children can benefit from the best education outcomes available.”
