Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Ó hOisín has welcomed the agreement on building in contingency days for the North West Road Races.
Mr. Ó hOisín said,
“The North West Bike Races attract many thousands of visitors into the area and is a major source of tourist income.
“However the last three years have been an unmitigated disaster in terms of the racing calendar being disrupted by very wet weather leading to the cancellation of some races.
“With the passing of the motion yesterday it will now be possible to add two contingency days including a Sunday whereby racing might take place if races on previous days were postponed due to the weather.
“The racing in the North West is a major tourist attractions that brings tourist money into the area and this bill will help protect the road racing tradition in the North West.”
