Sinn Féin MLA Bronwyn McGahan has welcomed the passing of a motion on bringing forward a sexual orientation strategy.
Ms. McGahan stated,
“The opportunity to debate this motion allowed us to highlight the inequalities and injustices that are faced by the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community.
“It is important that we bring equality into all aspects of life to everyone in the North and that includes the LGBT community.
“The strategy would allow us to bring forward policies that would protect the rights of the LGBT community in everyday life from adoption to marriage equality.
“The passing of this motion will now put an emphasis on bringing forward the strategy as we have been waiting for seven years for it to be produced and this is unacceptable.
“I am now calling on those parties opposed to a sexual orientation strategy to work with the majority of people in bringing this strategy forward immediately.”
