Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD this morning attended the lying in state of President Nelson ‘Madiba’ Mandela in Union Buildings in Pretoria.
Speaking afterward Gerry Adams TD said:
“Seeing Madiba lying in state was an emotional moment. I was greatly honoured to join hundreds of thousands of citizens, some say as many as three million, who filed respectfully passed the coffin of this great man.
Nelson Mandela gave the people of South Africa a future. He gave the rest of us an example to follow.
The mass of citizens who have in recent days attended the lying in state of Madiba and the national mourning that is evident everywhere in this country, is a testimony to the courage and vision of a leader who made a lasting contribution to this nation, to the world and to the imperative of peace and reconciliation.
