Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams today attended the funeral service and graveside service for Nelson Madiba Mandela.
Speaking afterward, Deputy Adams said:
“My thoughts are with Madiba’s family and his ANC comrades, after ten long days of waking him.
“It was a great honour to be in South Africa, at this time of national unity and pride in a country which not so long ago was inflicted by the obscenity of apartheid.
“Nelson Mandela’s legacy lives here.
“Hopefully it will live also in other parts of the world, including the island of Ireland.”
