Sheehan expresses support for Gary Spedding and the work of international observers in Palestine
Sinn Fein MLA and Middle East spokesperson Pat Sheehan has called on the international community to act against the continued abuse of Palestinian rights following the deportation of local man Gary Spedding.
Speaking today Mr Sheehan said:
"The policy of deportation if international observers and aid activists clearly indicates that Israel does not want first hand testimony of what is happening in the West Bank and Gaza being delivered to the world.
“The length that the Israeli authorities have gone to, monitoring those on social media who campaign for peace and Palestinian rights further emphasises this fact.
“For decades the Palestinian people have suffered injustice, oppression, discrimination, and poverty, due to the actions and policies of Israel, and the gross inaction of key players in the international community.
“There are many individuals and groups around the world however who wish to oppose these injustices. Gary Spedding was one of those brave individuals. While the international community fails to act the work of dedicated activists will continue.
“However there will only be a real sea change when those in the International community who continue to support or acquiesce to Israeli policies of expansion into Palestinian territory and the day and daily abuse of the Palestinian people act against the apartheid policies of the Israeli government.”
