Irish Water must be compliant with Freedom of Information

12 January, 2014 - by Brian Stanley TD

Sinn Fein spokesperson on Environment. Community and Local government, Brian Stanley TD has called on the government, “to make Irish Water compliant with Freedom of Information.”

Stanley said:

“Irish Water has existed under a shroud of secrecy. This is totally unacceptable. Irish Water must be compliant with Freedom of Information. Minister Fergus O'Dowd claimed on RTE that he agrees with this position. The company should also be audited by the comptroller and auditor general.

“The government must amend the Water Services Act and make Irish Water compliant. This could be done this week.

“I intend raising the issue on Wednesday in the Dail. I will be asking An Taoiseach to introduce an amendment as soon as possible.

“Irish Water are spending public money. It is vital they are accountable to the public.”
