Sinn Féin MLA Declan McAleer has welcomed the Minister of Agriculture efforts to ensure that Single Farm Payments are paid to farmers early.
Speaking at an Assembly debate on the issue Declan McAleer said,
“I welcome the fact that this year more farmers have received their Single Farm Payments in December than ever before and that the Minister is working to complete the small number of farmers awaiting their claim.
“I would like to commend the fact that extra staff have been deployed to deal with the outstanding cases and that these are progressing satisfactorily.
“I understand that many of the delays are due to forms having been completed incorrectly including failure to provide bank details.
“However I would again appeal to farmers to apply using the online version as it is quicker, easier, avoids standing in long queues and makes correcting mistakes easier.
“It is therefore crucial that we get the message out to farmers that by applying early and online it will speed up the entire process.”
