East Belfast post primary statement welcomed

14 January, 2014 - by Chris Hazzard

Sinn Féin Education spokesperson Chris Hazzard has welcomed the Ministers announcement on the future of the post primary school estate in East Belfast.

 Mr. Hazzard said,

“It has been Sinn Féin’s intention from taking on the Education portfolio that every child could attend a modern school that is equipped to deliver a first-class education in a first-class environment.

“The announcement today by Education Minister John O’Dowd will ensure that the children in the East Belfast area will be able to avail of schools capable of delivering the increased curriculum to the highest standards possible.

“Many schools in East Belfast have been underachieving, but the strategic approach taken by the minister, including a mixture of new builds, expansion and amalgamation means there is now no doubt that the challenge of raising academic achievement can be realised.

“Sinn Féin will continue to put the needs of the pupils first in striving to build a world class education system that can equip our children for life in the 21st century.”
