Carthy calls on Coveney to intervene as industrial action by agricultural officers looms

14 January, 2014 - by Matt Carthy MEP

Sinn Féin EU Midlands North West candidate Cllr Matt Carthy has called on Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney to intervene following notice of industrial action by the IMPACT trade union on behalf of agricultural officers in the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine.

Carthy said:

“There is an urgent need for the Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney to act in relation to the notice of industrial action by agriculture officers from his department

“The IMPACT trade union has issued notice of industrial action to commence on the 20th January.  The union has stated that they have not heard back from the Department despite having given notice on the 23rd of December.

“This is too serious an issue for the Minister to ignore. A failure by the Minister to act in relation to this issue would have serious implications for farmers and exporters of meat, livestock and other agricultural produce.

“I am calling on Minister Simon Coveney to engage with the IMPACT trade union in relation to their grievances and concerns without further delay.”
