Sinn Féin’s EU Midlands North West candidate, Matt Carthy, has slammed the Taoiseach and Minister for Communications and Natural Resources Pat Rabbitte for their evasiveness in the face of straight questions on the inclusion of the North-South Interconnector in the pylon review.
Carthy said it was increasingly clear that the review was nothing more than a pre-election stunt.
Cllr Carthy said
“It is becoming clearer every day that the pylon review is a stunt to push this issue beyond the local and European elections. Pat Rabbitte previously dismissed election promises saying “that is what you do at election time” and he is obviously taking the same approach to this issue.
“For all the communities affected, be it with the North South Interconnector, Grid Link or Grid West, they are looking for the government to take their concerns seriously. Throughout this debacle there is little to suggest that government ministers are listening the people’s real and genuine health and environmental concerns.
“The fact that the Taoiseach could not answer a straight question on the whether the North South interconnector is included or not in the pylon review is unacceptable. It is becoming more and more evident that this is an election stunt. A real review focused on addressing concerns and delivering the best possible outcome for all concerned would, without question, include the North-South Interconnector”.
