Sinn Féin councillor Tierna Cunningham has called for the local community to rally around in support for four families who were victims of a racist attack in the White City area of North Belfast.
In the attack on Tuesday night four cars were set alight. The local councillor was speaking as she accompanied Belfast Mayor Máirtín Ó Muilleoir on a visit to the area.
Tierna Cunningham said:
“The racist attacks this week on four families in North Belfast were completely despicable and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms.
“We have been in touch with some of the victims and offered our support and I'm calling on the wider community to rally around these families now and in the time ahead.
“Belfast Mayor Máirtín Ó Muilleoir who was visiting the area this morning was in contact with one family affected and offered his support to those affected.
“Racism like sectarianism has no place in modern Ireland and our new citizens are welcomed by the majority of people. I'm appealing to anyone with information about these attacks to come forward so those responsible can be made accountable for their actions.”
