30 January, 2014 - by Paul Maskey

West Belfast Sinn Féin MP Paul Maskey has welcomed the support of An Taoiseach Enda Kenny for the Ballymurphy families.

Paul Maskey was speaking after attending a meeting with the families at Government Buildings this afternoon.

At the meeting Enda Kenny gave a commitment to the families that he would support the demand for an independent panel of investigation to be established to examine all documents relating to the context, circumstances and aftermath of the deaths of their loved ones.

Mr Maskey said;

“Today has been a good day for the Ballymurphy families and for the long campaign for justice for their loved ones.

“They have been campaigning for 42 years for justice and today marks a significant development in that campaign.

“I welcome the Taoiseach’s commitment to support the families’ key demand for an independent panel of investigation.

“There is now an onus on him and his government to lobby the British Government give a similar commitment.”
